August and Driving

For some, August equates to back to school and for others it brings slightly less daylight hours from just a couple of months ago.  For all drivers, it means changing hazards during commuting and working hours.

It may be hard to believe that some schools have or are about to return to session, which means there will be an increasing amount of activity at school bus stops and school zones.  This can create changing hazards in these areas especially as the time for sunrise and sunset continues to change and can interfere with vision in these areas.

Additionally, this time of year brings changes to wildlife and traffic interactions which can lead to more animal crossings during your commute or work-related activities.

It can be challenging to plan around these situations, but awareness of the changing hazards is a good start.

For drivers and employers, this is a great time to be reviewing your hazard assessments and travel routes to help reduce risk.
