Don’t Forget to Post Your OSHA 300A Log

OSHA-TRUST-INNOVISE

Every year, most organizations are required to post their OSHA 300A log for the previous calendar year between February 1 and April 30.

It is important not to over (or under) record injuries and illnesses, as this information can affect your ability to secure work with various customers and could initiate reviews or inspections by OSHA. The forms are used to report and track “recordable” injuries as defined by OSHA.  OSHA further classifies recordable injuries into the following categories:

  • Fatality
  • Days Away from Work (Lost Time)
  • Job Transfer or Restriction
  • Other Recordable Cases

Here is a quick reminder of the requirements for posting (reference 29 CFR 1904):

  • The OSHA Form 300 is used to record the individual (recordable) injuries and related statistical data such as level of recordability or number of lost time or restricted workdays.
  • The OSHA Form 300A is used to summarize the injuries into each category of recordability (Recordable, Restricted or Transferred Work Activity, Lost Time/Days Away from Work, and Fatalities), along with related illnesses.
    • This information is used to determine several injury rates such as Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) and Days Away or Restricted Case Rate (DART). You and your customers may look at other rates to determine the severity of recordable injuries in your workforce.
    • The calculation used to determine the injury rates follows this formula: TRIR = (# of Recordable Cases X 200,000)  ÷  Total Hours Worked
  • The OSHA Form 301 is used to document information related to each individual recordable injury.
