The ninth annual National Safety Stand Down for Fall protection (in Construction) is scheduled for May 2nd through 6th.  This event is a good reminder, to anyone exposed to falls, to consider the precautions required to work safely at heights.  Data reveals that falls account for 351 of the 1,008 construction fatalities in 2020 (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Employers and employees alike should consider this as an opportunity to review their fall protection programs, ensure equipment is up to date on maintenance and inspections, and ensure their crews are current with their training. This is also a great time to ensure that crews and individual employees are active participants in their daily pre-task plans and/or JHAs to ensure all understand the risk and protections required to safely perform their work.
